What the tiny French Riviera Principality of Monaco lacks in size it undoubtedly makes up for in flash and grandeur. If you love flashy cars and boats, are looking for a chance to do some high-end shopping, or just want a bit of luxury on your next beach vacation, Monaco has it all. To get there, fly into Nice and take a taxi (one way prices start at about $80 from London airports). You can also take a train from most major nearby cities. Once you’re there, consider staying at one of Monaco’s top-notch luxury hotels like the historical Hotel de Paris, which comes complete with theme rooms.

One of the best attractions in Monaco is the Prince of Monaco’s private 1191 residence, the luxurious Palais du Prince. When you visit, you can see some of the inside apartments which boast a fantastic collection of art. Car-lovers shouldn’t miss Prince Ranier the Third’s antique car collection, available as part of your admission fee to the Palace. It’s a good idea to book online in advance to avoid line ups. Next, stroll through Monaco Harbor to gaze at the stunning skyscrapers and most valuable yachts in the world.Consider hopping on a Bateau boat on the other side of the harbor to get a better view of the city from afar.

If gardens are your thing, be sure to visit at least a few of Monaco’s extraordinary parks and gardens—there’s a Japanese Garden, a Botanical Garden, and an Exotic Garden just to name a few. Then stop for a bite at the Café de Paris to spend a little time people-watching, then consider some high-end shopping at the Monte-Carlo Pavilionsor the Métropole Shopping Center. If you’re looking for exceptional food for dinner, there are plenty of Michelin-starred restaurants in Monaco to choose from. After dinner, there are likely plenty of parties happening…if you’re “in the know.” But if you want something a little more low-key, consider the Philharmonic Orchestra, the Opera or the Ballet.
