You’ve finally made it to the city you’ve dreamed of visiting your whole life: New York City. You’ve heard about it, read about it and watched all the great shows filmed there and now it’s your turn to take in the Big Apple. So where do you start when you get there? Well, here’s a few of the hot spots to explore and enjoy.
So Much to See and Do
Start with a walk through Central Park. The 843-acre expanse is a park, museum, zoo and so much more. The garden environment is a favorite of New Yorkers and visitors alike with a plethora of things to explore like 48 fountains, 20 playgrounds, 36 bridges, several monuments and edgy sculptures.
Theater-lovers visiting the city could spend an entire trip on Broadway. The heartland of America’s great plays and musicals, rows of theaters keep patrons entertained year-round. Trip Advisor wrote “When visiting New York – seeing a Broadway show is a must. Walking along the street with the lights and signs is mind–blowing.” All but the Vivian Beaumont Theater is located near the neon-lined area of Times Square in western Midtown. Evening performances are held Tuesday through Saturday with afternoon matinees open on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
The world-renowned Metropolitan Museum of Art is busting at the seams with masterpieces from all over the globe. It’s collection boasts works from Ancient Egypt and classical antiquity. It’s impossible to see all the museum offers in just one day, so plan accordingly if you want to take it all in. Some of the notable collections are Greek and Roman art, Islamic art, and the Costume Institute.
Shopping buffs travel from all ends of the globe to stroll along the shops of Fifth Avenue. Some of the upscale stores include Bergdorf Goodman, Tiffany & Company and Van Cleef & Arpels. And, there’s plenty of reasonable-priced shops like the Disney Store, Gap and Sephora.
No trip to New York City is complete without enjoying the exceptional and diverse cuisine. For great sushi, go to Ichimura on Leonard Street. For the city’s best barbecue, 2017 reports say Pig Bleeker is the best. For healthy, vegetable-centric Mexican dishes, try Atla, and, for the best Pho in the city, go to Ha Noi House in the East Village.
