Nestled in the bustling heart of Tokyo at Shibuya Crossing, the famous Hachiko statue stands as

renowned for his unwavering dedication to his owner, waiting at the station daily for years even
after his owner’s passing. Erected in 1934, the statue has become a beloved landmark, attracting
visitors from around the world who come to pay homage to the tale of Hachiko’s steadfast love.
It’s not just a photo op but a place that reminds us of the enduring bond between humans and their
furry companions, set against the vibrant backdrop of one of Tokyo’s busiest intersections.
Lake Toya: A Hokkaido Adventure
Venture to the stunning Lake Toya in Hokkaido, Japan. This volcanic lake is a sight to behold,
surrounded by majestic mountains and offering a picture-perfect escape.
Staying at Lake Toya Nonokaze
The Lake Toya Nonokaze resort offered an amazing place to stay with rooms showing panoramic
lake views. The hotel also provides natural hot springs on-site. Imagine soaking in the steaming
waters after a day of exploring, the mountain air crisp on your skin – pure bliss! The breakfast and
dinner buffet were incredible. Fresh sashimi, tempura, Hokkaido steak to name a few delicious
selections. In the summer, there is a nightly fireworks show on the lake.
Volcanic Views on the Mt. Usuzan Ropeway
Mt. Usuzan Ropeway is a gondola that whisks you up the volcanic peaks of Mt. Usuzan, an active
volcano (don’t worry, it’s constantly monitored!). As you ascend, the landscape unfolds beneath you,
the turquoise lake contrasting with the verdant forests. Once you reach the top of the gondola you
can enjoy smoothies while looking over the amazing view or take a hike and view more amazing
scenery.
The hike can be challenging as it goes up and down many sets of stairs.
Hiking Paradise: Nakajima Island
Nakajima Island is a must-visit for hiking. This little gem sits in the middle of Lake Toya and is
accessible by ferry. The island is a protected nature reserve, teeming with lush forests and hiking
trails.You can spend a delightful afternoon traversing the paths, breathing in the fresh air and
surrounded by the tranquility of nature. There is a small restaurant there for a nice afternoon snack.
A taste of the beauty and adventure awaits at Lake Toya. This place is a true gem, offering something
for everyone, from relaxation and sightseeing to outdoor thrills.
Noboribetsu
Nestled amidst the mountains of Hokkaido, Noboribetsu is a town synonymous with relaxation and
rejuvenation. Steaming natural springs, fascinating geological features, and a touch of local legend
combine to make this a truly unique travel destination.

mineral-rich waters of the Dai-ichi Takimotokan was an incredible experience. The Dai-ichi
Takimotokan holds the largest onsen in Hokkaido boasting a variety of indoor and outdoor baths, each
with its unique mineral composition and ambiance. Soaking in the steaming water while surrounded
by the natural beauty of the landscape was an unforgettable way to unwind and embrace the serenity
of Noboribetsu.
In addition to its impressive onsen offerings, Dai-ichi Takimotokan provides an array of gourmet
diningoptions that showcase the best of local Hokkaido cuisine. The multi-course kaiseki dinners
feature seasonal ingredients and exquisite presentation, creating a culinary experience that

Just a short distance away lies Jigokudani, also known as Hell Valley. The name might sound
intimidating, but the reality is an awe-inspiring landscape sculpted by volcanic activity. The Hell
Valley Walk winds its way past steaming vents, colorful hot springs, and bubbling mud pots,
offering a glimpse into the earth’s geothermal energy.
Oni Hanabi: A Festival of Fire
During my stay, I was fortunate enough to experience the Noboribetsu Onsen Festival, featuring
the spectacular Oni Hanabi (Demon Fireworks). As night fell, the valley illuminated with bursts of
color, set against the backdrop of the steaming earth. The fiery display, accompanied by traditional
drumming, was a truly captivating spectacle.
